City Takes Moment of Silence at 2008 Veterans Day Ceremony
The City of Santa Clarita will host a Veteran's Day Ceremony honoring our country's veterans and military families on Tuesday, November 11th at 11:00 a.m. at the Veteran's Historical Plaza in Old Town Newhall. This ceremony will provide residents an opportunity to join friends and neighbors in supporting our veteran's sacrifices and courage.
As a sign of respect for the millions who have died in war, the Santa Clarita Veteran's Day Ceremony will begin with a two minute moment of silence at 11:00 a.m. Following the moment of silence, the City's Veteran's Day Ceremony will continue with the changing of the flags which will be done by the Knights of Columbus Santa Clarita Assembly and representatives from various armed services recruiting offices.
"On Veterans day, the City will be honoring our veterans and members of the Armed Forces as well as their families at the Veteran's Historical Plaza, a City facility designed to recognize the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom," said Mayor Bob Kellar.
In addition, the Santa Clarita Veteran's Day Ceremony will feature musical performances by local favorites Megan Mills, Trish Lester, and members of the Canyon High School Choir. There are also scheduled speakers which include Mayor Bob Kellar, who is an Army Veteran, Father Olin Mayfield of Saint Clare Catholic Church, who is a Veteran who served in the Navy as a Chaplain, Dick Jeffrey of the Santa Clarita Valley Veteran's Memorial Committee, Rabbi Mark Blazer and Council member Laurene Weste.
