Child Care Providers Celebrate
The Family Day Care Association of the SCV held their annual Installation and Awards Ceremony Night at Wolf Creek in the banquet room on Tuesday, January 13th. It was a dress up affair with a Hollywood theme night of glamour and glitz. Complete with red carpet, fancy pictures, confetti and formal attire, the "Oscars" were awarded to incoming officers and board members for 2009 by guest celebrity actor James Edson. Edson is a local actor who's children attended licensed, family child care for years from infancy to school age and showed his appreciation by volunteering to be the celebrity emcee. He injected much humor and charisma into the script created by Ann Koretz.
New leaders installed are: President: Mary Gregory; Vice President: Jennifer Pearlstein; Treasurer: Nancy Hamilton; Secretary: Kathryn DeRosa; Newsletter Editor: Ann Koretz and Board Members are: Debbie Estes, Vicky Cooke, Reba Fahar and Ann Koretz.
Outgoing leaders of 2008 were honored with certificates of appreciation and beautiful Los Angeles County commendations for their community service. Committee chairpersons earned certificates of appreciation also. Lynn Frei was the recipient of the Helen Weiss Memorial Scholarship award. Last year's honoree Nancy Hamilton presented the plaque, butterfly jewelry pin, and scholarship with kind words of Lynn's acheivements. Lynn was instrumental in re-organizing the lending library for efficiency at monthly meetings.
This nonprofit group offers ongoing support and trainings for in-home early child caregivers since 1989 and our first Mayor of SCV, Joanne Darcy installed the leaders in the beginning years. The FDCASCV has a free referral system for parents needing child care in our community. The group meets every second Tuesday night for networking and professional development besides participating in many community functions like Play Day for Kids and Baby Expo.
The Child Care Resource Center will be conducting a focus group for providers at the February 10th meeting. The association would like to thank CCRC and Matt Gregory of Keller Williams for being corporate sponsors in 2009. Matt Gregory gave many financial donations over the year and also paid for the awesome presentation and raffle gifts at Installation. The winner of the 50/50 raffle was member Beckie Warloe who earned around $85.00.
