Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Announces Appointment of Rehabilitation Services Medical Director
VALENCIA, CA (July 25, 2008) Surisham Dhillon, MD has been appointed as the new medical director of rehabilitation services at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. In her new position, Dhillon will oversee a team of certified therapists, registered nurses, and support staff for the hospital's acute rehabilitation unit and outpatient services.
"As Henry Mayo continues to improve the patient experience and create the ideal healthcare environment for our community, Dr. Dhillon's extensive experience will be very valuable," said John Schleif, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Henry Mayo. "Her focus on developing and implementing a strategic plan for rehabilitation medicine, and promoting utilization of services throughout the continuum, will distinguish Henry Mayo as a healthcare provider."
Dhillon has been a member of Henry Mayo's medical staff for the last 12 years and served on the Medical Executive Committee in 2007. She has extensive expertise in the treatment of persons with stroke, Parkinson's Disease, spinal cord injury and disease, multiple sclerosis, balance and muskuloskeletal disorders, as well as other neurological conditions.
"I am very excited about this opportunity to work with the department in improving the health of our patients," claimed Dhillon. "We will work together to highlight the importance of fitness, activity and overall health to improve function in a wide range of disabilities and muskuloskeletal problems."
Dhillon is board certified in neurology. She received her early medical training in India, and served a neurology residency at West Los Angeles VA Medical Center/UCLA. After completing her residency, she served as chief resident of the neurology service at the same organization. Prior to entering into private practice in Santa Clarita, Dhillon was an EMG Fellow and clinical instructor at UCLA Medical Center.
Raymond Gritton, MD, had served as Henry Mayo's medical director for rehabilitation services since 2006. He relinquished his role to spend more time with his children and attend their extracurricular activities.
"It was a great pleasure working with the staff," Dr. Gritton stated. "They're a highly dedicated, passionate group of clinicians and the community is lucky to have them providing patient care."
"I want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Gritton for his leadership of our rehabilitation program over the past couple of years. His patients and the rehab staff have benefited from his work with them," said Schleif.
Dhillon's role as medical director of rehabilitation services at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital began July 2, 2008. The 19-bed acute rehabilitation center serves patients with orthopedic, neurological, and complex medical conditions.
