Gary Cusumano Receives Health Care Leadership Award
Congressman "Buck" McKeon presented Gary Cusumano with the Congressman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon Healthcare Leadership Award during a ceremony at the Tournament Players Club on October 28, 2008.
VALENCIA, CA (October 31, 2008) — Gary Cusumano has been named as the recipient of the Congressman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon Healthcare Leadership Award for his significant contributions to quality healthcare and advocacy for Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. The award was presented by Congressman "Buck" McKeon during a ceremony at the Tournament Players Club on October 28, 2008.
The Healthcare Leadership Award was created by the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation in 2006 to honor individuals or companies who exemplify the values of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and who support the mission to improve the health of our community through compassion and excellence in healthcare services. It was named for Congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon for his consistent and demonstrated support for quality healthcare in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Cusumano's support for Henry Mayo includes volunteering his time and resources as a member of the Hospital's Board of Directors from 1988-2005. He served as Chairman of the Board from 1993-96 and again 1997-1998. Cusumano currently serves on Henry Mayo's Foundation Advisory Board and Facilites Development Committee.
"I believe the decision to select Gary for the Healthcare Leadership Award was an excellent choice," said Roger Seaver, president and CEO of Henry Mayo. "I thank him on behalf of the entire Hospital for his professionalism, advocacy, and for his wonderful gift of time, talent and resources."
Cusumano's extraordinary contributions to improve the quality and accessibility of health care in the Santa Clarita Valley include playing a vital role in securing more than $14 million in contributions and grants for the hospital's capital campaign.
"To say that Gary has been active in philanthropy is somewhat of an understatement," stated Seaver. "His taking the lead as chairman of our capital campaign for a new ER and Cardiac Cath Lab was nothing less than extraordinary."

"Supporting the hospital is easy for me because it could not be a better cause for the community than to ensure that we have a first-class emergency department and state-of-the-art hospital. I urge everyone to support the hospital's expansion so that we can continue to move forward and provide healthcare services for our growing community."
The inaugural Healthcare Leadership Award was presented to Congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon by the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for his consistent and demonstrated support for quality healthcare in the Santa Clarita Valley in terms of his advocacy for federal funds, his support for the growth of the hospital's campus, and for his leadership and guidance as a past member and chairman of the Hospital Board of Directors--and for making our community's trauma needs a priority.
In 2007, Roberta G. Veloz was honored with the award for volunteering her time and resources, her philanthropic generosity, and her stellar advocacy of Henry Mayo in and outside the Santa Clarita Valley.
