Give Thanks — Give Blood
VALENCIA, CA (November 17, 2008) — With the long Thanksgiving weekend almost here, many people are thinking about turkey, travel plans, and the many reasons they have to give thanks. Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is asking people to take just one hour to give thanks by giving blood during their "Pie for a Pint" Blood Drive on Thursday, November 20, 7 am to 7 pm.
"As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families and friends, it's important that we remember patients are relying on a plentiful blood supply so that they can also celebrate with their families," said Jonathan Miller, MPH, director of laboratory services. "The blood you donate now may help to save someone's life this holiday season."
In appreciation for donating, every donor will receive a freshly baked and boxed pumpkin pie.
All blood types are needed and the blood donated at Henry Mayo will be used in our community.
The 12-hour blood drive will be held in the Henry Mayo/COC Clinical Education Center on the hospital's campus, 25727 McBean Parkway, Valencia. Complimentary valet parking is available.
Giving blood is simple, painless, and it takes less than one hour. Any healthy person age 17 or older and weighing at least 110 pounds, and who has not donated blood in the last 8 weeks, may be able to donate blood. Donors can register on-line at www.henrymayo.com, call 661-253-8888 for an appointment, or simply show up between 7 am to 7 pm on April 10. Donors are requested to bring a valid photo I.D. and eat a nutritious meal prior to donating.
