Providence Executive Michael Madden Receives Top Honor for Contributions to Health Care
Michael Madden, Providence Health & Services' vice president for advocacy and development, has received the California Health Association's most prestigious honor, the Award of Merit, for his outstanding contributions to the health care community.
Madden is the chief advocate for Providence at the national level and works within the organization to develop policy. He also works with fund-raising foundations at the system's 27 medical centers, including the five in Southern California Providence Saint Joseph, Providence Holy Cross and Providence Tarzana medical centers; and Little Company of Mary Hospital - Torrance and Little Company of Mary San Pedro Hospital.
"This is a well deserved and most prestigious recognition," said Arnold Schaffer, vice president and chief executive of Providence Health & Services, California.
The Award of Merit is given to a hospital executive who has provided outstanding services over an extended period of time.
Madden joined Providence in 1993 as chief executive of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and served as the chief executive for the California Region from 1996 to 2006. Over the past decade, he helped engineer the acquisitions of Providence Holy Cross in Mission Hills and the two South Bay medical centers.
"This honor is very humbling," Madden said. "It's such a privilege to work in health care with the many talented and dedicated people who I've served with over the years."
Madden has been chairman of the Hospital Association of Southern California, the California Hospital Association and the Alliance of Catholic Health Care, and currently serves on the board of the American Hospital Association.
"His service to the health care industry to Catholic health care in particular is remarkable," Schaffer said.
