No Longer the Impossible Dream: Home Ownership Is Within Reach
Santa Clarita, Calif. — When you buy an online $100 raffle ticket at www.houseofyourchoice.org, your name will be entered into a drawing to win an existing house of your choice anywhere in the United States that state laws allow, or a choice of two other cash prizes. The total prize value can be up to $1,000,000. It is suggested that the price of the house not exceed $600,000 so that you have cash to pay your taxes and closing costs. The winner also will have a choice of $600,000 lump sum or $50,000 per year for 20 years. Be aware that all of these prizes are subject to taxes. You may buy as many tickets as you like.
Sponsored by the House of Your Choice Committee, consisting of the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club, Carousel Ranch and Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, Inc. in Santa Clarita, Calif., the raffle benefits the local Rotary Foundation along with two other charitable organizations based in Santa Clarita, Calif.
Long time Santa Clarita Valley Rotarian and Santa Clarita resident Ed Bolden, founder of this fundraiser, said, "There are a million raffles of every kind. But so many become impossible for the winner to benefit from as they don't have the extra money to pay the taxes owed on the prize and there are so many other financial problems that come up. What our Rotary has done is to develop a raffle that not only benefits our local community, but makes it easy for the winner to enjoy his winnings."
Bolden added that the grand prize winner has 90 days to select a house and an additional 60 days to close escrow. The total value must be no higher than $1,000,000 to include the cost of the house, closing costs and taxes. The house can be located anywhere in the continental United States. The raffle is aimed to truly benefit the winner.

In addition to the grand prize, there will be an early bird deadline April 26 to May 26. All tickets entered by the early bird deadline are re-entered into the grand prize drawing.
Each $100 contribution helps support nonprofit organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley, including Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, Inc., which provides health care services to underinsured and uninsured patients throughout the community, and Carousel Ranch, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing developmental therapeutic and recreational programs for disabled and disadvantaged children through horses.

The Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club provides financial support to a number of local charities.
Each year the SCV Rotary Club awards more than $10,000 to local charities and organizations through their Newhall Community Fund. Some of the community service projects done over the last few years include the donation of a Rotary Garden with gazebo to the City of Santa Clarita, purchase of playground equipment for special needs students, Adopt-A-Highway Program (freeway clean up), and the building of a retaining wall for a local nonprofit.
