SCV Jaycees to Host 11th Annual Awards & Installation Dinner
Celebrating its 11th anniversary, the Santa Clarita Valley Junior Chamber International (SCV Jaycees) is hosting its annual Awards and Installation Dinner at the Hyatt Valencia. This evening will take a look back at the many accomplishments from 2008 and will look forward to the multitude of opportunities 2009 has to offer. To mark this special occasion, “Enchanted Nights” will be the theme of the evening.
On, Saturday, February 21, Jaycee members and their guests will start off the evening with a cocktail hour beginning at 6PM. The program will commence with commendations from local officials including U.S. House Representative, Buck McKeon; County of Los Angeles Supervisor Michael Antonovich; Senator George Runner and SCV Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Larry Mankin.
The awards portion of the evening will begin with Annual State Awards given out by 2009 California State President, Matt Bromund (member of JCI Ventura County). In addition, President Bromund will administer the de-installation of the 2008 Board of Directors and will also install the 2009 SCV President, Jenny Nemitz, and the Board of Directors.
2008 SCV Jaycee President, Tim Ketchepaw, will present the 2008 year-end awards. Those awards chosen by the president include: Board Member of the Year, Brenda Mehling Memorial Award, and Manager of the Year. Additionally, all Chapter members were given the opportunity to vote on the following awards:
2008 Community Impact Project of the Year. This award honors the project which most fulfilled our mission: “To Develop Young Leaders through Service to Our Community.” This project had a great impact on our community. Community projects include: Brenda Mehling Charity Poker Tournament, Brenda Mehling “Fight It! 5K”, the Red Cross Disaster Relief Team, the American Cancer Society’s Relay 4 Life, Santa’s Helpers and the high school Scholarship Program.
2008 Chapter Impact Project of the Year. This award honors the project which makes a direct impact on our chapter and its members. This project benefited the chapter through raising funds or benefited our members through education or entertainment. Chapter projects include: 10th Anniversary Awards & Installation Dinner, Backroads of SCV, Bartending 101, Casino Night, Cosmetics Training, Culinary Cohorts, Emerging Leaders, Gun Training, JCI Designer, Paintball Wars, Pub Crawl, State Convention and Wine Stroll.
2008 Committee of the Year. This award honors the committees who worked to bring regular programming to our chapter. Committees include: Book Club, Governmental Affairs Committee, Individual Development (ID) Nights and Membership Socials.
2008 New Jaycee of the Year. This award honors the most outstanding First-Year Jaycee in the chapter. He or she will have attended events and General Membership Meetings (GMMs), will have volunteered for various projects, and will have shown a general enthusiasm and excitement about being a member of the SCV Jaycees. Eligible members joined between December 2007 and October 2008.
2008 Jaycee of the Year. This award honors the SCV Jaycee who has been a member of the chapter for over a year. This award goes to someone who demonstrated significant dedication and service to the chapter and to the community of the Santa Clarita Valley. This is the member who most exemplifies the Jaycee spirit.
During the evening, attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of unique services and items at the Silent Auction. Some of the items include: vacation packages from Telesis Community Credit Union, a conga drum from Remo, Inc., a custom made dress from Dream Dress, and a pair of NBA basketball tickets from Poole and Shaffery, LLP.
The evening will conclude with dancing a slide show highlighting the activities and accomplishments from 2008.
