Stolen Property Recovered: Seeking Original Owners
Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 12:50 a.m. - Saugus
Alert Saugus residents reported vandals driving around the area smashing vehicle side mirrors with a baseball bat early Wednesday morning. Responding deputies located the described vehicle, a silver Chevrolet pick up truck. Inside the vehicle, they located Suspect Nicholas Prieto, M/ 23 year old, of Valencia, lying in the bed of the truck next to a baseball bat. Suspect Gennaro Siano, M/ 18 year old, of Saugus, was driving the vehicle and there were two passengers, a male 16 and female 14, both residents of Saugus.
Also inside the vehicle, deputies located a couple electronic items which appeared to stolen from vehicles. It appeared that the suspects had been driving around Saugus stealing from and vandalizing vehicles during the night. All four suspects were arrested for Vandalism and Receiving Stolen Property. They were booked at Santa Clarita Valley Station. The two juveniles were later released to their parents after booking. Prieto and Siano were held at Santa Clarita Valley Station in lieu of $20,000 bail.
During the investigation by detectives, it became apparent that there could be more stolen property. Detectives served search warrants at two of the suspects homes. More electronic items were located during these searches. All items are believed to have been taken from vehicles in the Saugus area sometime in the past few weeks.
Suspects Siano and Prieto have been charged with Felony Vandalism. Suspect Siano and the male juvenile suspect are suspected of stealing electronic items from vehicles in the Saugus area. The electronic items have not been traced back to their original owners at this time.
Detectives are asking citizens who failed to report that their electronic items were taken from their unlocked or locked vehicle in the Saugus area during the last three weeks to please contact Detective O'Neill at 661-799-5154.
