Residents & Deputies Put an End to Crime Spree
Saturday, February 21, 2009, 2:00 a.m. Saugus:
Commit Crime? Not in the Santa Clarita Valley An apparent crime spree came to an end in Saugus early Saturday morning thanks to an alert resident and an observant deputy. A resident in the 22000 block of Oxford Drive, Saugus, called the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station after he spotted two men inside his car which was parked in the driveway.
The resident provided detailed information about a car the suspects were driving and a deputy spotted the vehicle a short time later being driven on Railroad Avenue. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and detained six occupants in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the car was stolen out of the Devonshire area on February 16, 2009.
Deputies report that they also found the occupants of the vehicle, four juveniles and two adults, were in possession of laptop computers, tools, IPODs, digital cameras, GPS systems, wallets, financial documents belonging to other individuals, DVD players, and other items they believe to be stolen. Deputies determined at least one of the items was taken during a theft incident on Thursday night in the 21000 block of Altena Drive, Saugus.
All the individuals were arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. The two adults, both of Sunland, were later released pending additional investigation. Three of the juveniles, FH/15 of Sun Valley, FW/16 of Sunland, and MW/16 of Tujunga were booked on felony charges of Taking a Vehicle Without the Owners Consent, and misdemeanor charges of Minor in Possession of Alcohol and Curfew Violation. They were later released to their parents pending future court proceedings. A fourth juvenile, MW/17, of Lakeview Terrace, was booked on felony charges of Taking a Vehicle Without the Owners Consent and Receiving Stolen Property. He was transported to Sylmar Juvenile Hall for housing pending future court proceedings.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.
