Bank Robber Behind Bars
Thursday, February 26, 2009, 5:20 p.m. Canyon Country:
Public Assistance Request Pays Off in a Big Way A suspected bank robber is behind bars today. The suspect was arrested just 27 hours after allegedly passing a note to a bank teller demanding money at the Bank of America in the 19000 block of Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country. View initial press release here: Bank Robbery Canyon Country.
Immediately following the robbery Wednesday, detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station released information and a video still depicting the suspect. Several media outlets ran the picture in newspapers and on television. That diligence and teamwork paid off in a big way as several tips were received by Santa Clarita Station personnel. Detectives analyzed and investigated the tips, but it was one tip from a Santa Clarita resident that ultimately led them to identify the suspect. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Detectives from the Robbery and Assault team worked throughout the day and into the evening Thursday to verify the information and continue the investigation. The suspect was ultimately located and arrested without incident at 5:20 p.m. during a Sheriff's operation at an apartment complex in the 27000 Block of Solamint Road, Canyon Country, just 1.2 miles from the bank.
The vehicle, which detectives believe was used during the commission of the crime, was also recovered in the area. Detectives continued their investigation well into the night and served a search warrant at the suspect's apartment in the same complex. Detectives reportedly recovered additional evidence connected to the case.
The suspect, Scott Price, MW/45, of Canyon Country was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on a felony Robbery charge. If convicted, he faces up to 5 years in State Prison. Deputies are pleased with the quick resolution of the case and hope it serves as a clear indication that crime doesn't pay in Santa Clarita.
"This case is an excellent example of the media, law enforcement, and the community working together to solve crime," said Captain Anthony La Berge of the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station. "We will continue to send our 'Not in Santa Clarita' message."
The suspect is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail pending future court proceedings.
Anyone with additional information regarding this crime or Suspect Scott Price is asked to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station at (661) 255-1121. Press inquiries should be directed to Sergeant Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station at (661) 510-1827.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time. -ref 03606
