Sheriff's Operation Uncovers Counterfeit Goods
Sheriff's Operation Ends in Arrests Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Team assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, assisted by deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's countywide COPS team, conducted a counterfeit merchandise detection operation at the Saugus Speedway Swap Meet Sunday.
The operation, conducted in cooperation with investigators from Investigative Consultants, was the culmination of months of planning and intelligence gathering after law enforcement officials received tips from private investigators that counterfeit goods were being sold at the Saugus Swap Meet.
Deputies and private investigators identified and seized more than $300,000 worth of counterfeit products and arrested seven adults and one juvenile. All were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on felony charges of Sales of Counterfeit Merchandise.
Some of the counterfeit items seized were unauthorized copies of legitimate brands such as Ed Hardy clothing, True Religion Brand Jeans, DNKY shirts, Famous Stars and Straps shirts, Volcom shirts, Element shirts, Abercrombie and Fitch clothing, Chanel Bracelets, Gucci dog collars, and Louis Vuitton bags.
Two of those arrested were residents of Santa Clarita. Patricia Sanchez, F/37, of Canyon Country and Gisela Rosales, F/21, of Saugus are each being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. They are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow morning.
The investigations are ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
