Assault Suspect Arrested
Thursday, March 12, 2009, 5:16 p.m. — Canyon Country
Deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call near Cedarcreek Street and Pine Hills Avenue, Canyon Country Thursday night. The victim, a canyon country resident, stated that he saw 3 men yelling at a United Parcel Service (UPS) driver near Delight Street and Pine Hills Avenue. The UPS driver had reportedly seen the men tagging in a nearby alleyway and had confronted them. The UPS driver then left the area. The victim confronted the young men a few blocks away, asking them why they were tagging and yelling at the UPS driver. The men became very agitated and began to yell at the victim and attempted to surround him. The victim retrieved a baseball bat from his truck and held it in self-defense. One of the men reportedly retrieved a handgun from his waistband and fired one shot, missing the victim. The suspect then ran from the area.
Deputies immediately converged on the area, but the suspect was not immediately located. The investigation continued well into the night, as detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff/City of Santa Clarita's COBRA Team arrived. The detectives analyzed the graffiti, conducted several interviews, and identified a suspect. The suspect, Adam Donleypeers MB/24, of Stevenson Ranch was contacted via telephone and later turned himself in. He was arrested without incident. No one was injured during the incident.
The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on a felony charge of Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail pending future court proceedings.
