Four Residential Burglars Behind Bars
Community Interaction Team Nabs Burglars
Four suspected burglars are behind bars today after Deputies Vaziri and Marino, assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station / City of Santa Clarita's Community Interaction Team (CIT) spotted a vehicle matching the description given in a residential burglary yesterday.
The same vehicle, a black Mercedes Sport Utility Vehicle, had been spotted by neighbors at the scene of other residential burglaries in the Santa Clarita Valley over the past several weeks and deputies have been searching for it. The same vehicle was described in a March 18th residential burglary in the 20000 block of Dorothy Street, Canyon Country, where a television, two computers, and a Wii game system were stolen after a garage door was kicked open (-ref 04837). In yesterday's residential burglary in the 19000 block of Delight Street, Canyon Country, an alert neighbor called the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station just after 2:00 p.m. and reported that earlier in the day she had watched a man knock on her neighbor's door and then climb a fence into the backyard. The same neighbor saw a black Mercedes SUV back into the driveway. The suspects proceeded to load a television and other items from the house into the car and fled the area.
Deputies scoured the entire Santa Clarita Valley yesterday, methodically searching for the vehicle. Just before 4:00 p.m., the deputies spotted a vehicle and occupants matching the description of the crime driving on Newhall Avenue near Valle Del Oro, Newhall. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and detained the suspects. Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Burglary and Theft team immediately responded to the area after CIT and patrol deputies recovered items in the car directly connected to the Delight Street burglary. Three suspects were arrested without incident at the scene. Two of which were on felony probation for burglary and narcotics violations. Deputies report that they recovered several items inside the car including video game systems, metal vehicle plates, numerous cellular phones, clothing, burglary tools, and even a pillow case directly linked to the burglary that the suspects had apparently stolen and used to carry the items. Detectives even discovered a text message referencing the stolen television.
Daniel Yacoub, MW/29, of Sherman Oaks; Thomas Nichols, MW/21, of Van Nuys; and Dino Venturella, MW/29, of Valencia were each booked at the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station on felony Burglary charges. Yacoub and Nichols were on felony parole and are being held without bail pending future court proceedings. Venturella is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail pending future court proceedings.
Burglary and Theft Detectives and members of the Community Interaction Team continued their investigation well into the night, serving a search warrant after 9:30 p.m. at an apartment located at 23740 Via Canon, Newhall. Inside the apartment detectives recovered dozens of additional items believed to be stolen in other Santa Clarita burglary incidents. The items included a shotgun, a semi-automatic 22 cal. pistol, IPOD's, GPS units, cameras, cell phones, video gaming systems, night vision, computers, video cameras, handcuffs, a guitar, MP3 players, and the television taken in the Canyon Country burglary. The detectives also recovered counterfeit United States Currency, a scale, and methamphetamine. A fourth man was arrested as a result of the search warrant service. Christopher Pawlik, MW/29, of Newhall was booked at the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station on felony charges of Receiving Known Stolen Property. He is being held in lieu of $40,000 bail pending future court proceedings.
"This is yet another perfect example of the community providing valuable information to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station that ultimately helps us solve multiple crimes," said Captain Anthony La Berge. "We haven't seen the end of this case just yet." -ref 05194
Sheriff's officials are still looking for a white 4-door vehicle, possibly a Mercedes SUV, that has been spotted at several other burglaries in the Hasley Hills area of Castaic and the Fair Oaks Ranch area of Canyon Country over he past several weeks. Detectives are attempting to identify at least two suspects in connection with those cases. The suspects have been seen in and around the burglarized homes and driving the above described vehicle. They are described only as a male and female black adults. Generally the female waits in the car as the male knocks on doors in the area. When they knock several times and believe that no one is home the male adult is kicking the doors open and burglarizing the houses. -ref 04493 / 04497 / 04539 / 05176 / 04283 / 04284
