Shooting Investigation Canyon Country
Sunday, April 05, 2009, 3:25 a.m. Canyon Country:
Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's COBRA Team are investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning near Whites Canyon Road and Pleasantdale Street, Canyon Country.
Deputies were flagged down on Soledad Canyon Road by four young adults who said they had just been shot at. The incident was preceded by an apparent near collision between the victims' vehicle and the suspects' vehicle near Cedarcreek Street and Camp Plenty Road. The suspects' vehicle, described as a 1990s white four-door sedan, containing at least two occupants followed the victims on several side streets. As the victims turned from Whites Canyon Road onto Pleasantdale Street they heard at least two gunshots. Two of the rear passengers in the victims' vehicle reported being struck by the gunfire.
Deputies immediately requested emergency medical aid for the victims and broadcast the suspects information to responding units. Deputies canvassed the area looking for the white vehicle and the suspects, but were not able to locate them. Both victims were treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel and were transported to a local area hospital for additional treatment. One of the victims was struck in the back and the second was apparently struck in the head by a bullet fragment. Their current condition is not available, but the wounds are not believed to be life threatening.
COBRA Detectives are investigating if the incident is gang related. As the investigation continues, deputies are searching for the above described vehicle and at least two suspects described only as Hispanic males, 20-25 years old, with shaved heads. The suspected shooter appeared to be heavyset.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident should immediately contact Detective Pat Oneill, (661) 799-5154, or Detective Dan Finn, (661) 799-5153, of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's COBRA Team. There is no further information available at this time. -ref 05923
