SCV Deputies: Keeping Our 4th of July Holiday Safe
Commit Crime? Not in the Santa Clarita Valley
Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station were busy this past weekend working to keep the Santa Clarita Valley safe during the 4th of July Holiday.
Deputies assigned to the City of Santa Clarita / Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Community Interaction (C.I.T.) Team conducted special operations and increased patrol throughout the valley, specifically pertaining to fireworks related incidents and large parties. Between 2:00 p.m. July 4th and 6:00 a.m. July 5th alone, team members and other deputies responded to 170 fireworks related calls, and 23 loud music or party calls. They issued 8 fireworks related citations, confiscated fireworks from 11 locations, and arrested a Val Verde man on felony charges of Possession of Illegal Fireworks.
In all, between 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 and 10:00 p.m. Sunday, July 6th, 2008, your patrol deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station responded to 1,661 total calls for service and observed incidents. Of those calls and incidents, 258 were pertaining to illegal fireworks, and 76 to loud music or parties.
In addition, deputies provided enforcement, protection, and traffic control at all the sanctioned fireworks shows throughout the Santa Clarita Valley and the annual 4th of July Parade. A contingent of deputies were also sent to the Malibu area to assist the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station and Los Angeles County Fire Department with a brush fire. Your deputies also provided safety and protection as needed for exceptionally large holiday crowds at Pyramid Lake, Castaic Lake, and other recreation areas.
"These enforcement and safety operations, and the hard work of all the staff at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station resulted in another safe and fun-filled 4th of July Holiday," said Captain La Berge of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. "Thanks to these efforts and our diligent proactive residents, no one was seriously injured or killed this holiday weekend in the Santa Clarita Valley and no fires attributed to fireworks were reported," he added.
