Friday, July 17, 2009, 12:17 a.m.
Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's COBRA Team are investigating a shooting incident that occurred early this morning in the 23700 block of Valle Del Oro, Newhall.
Deputies responded to the area to reports that a man, MB/22, of Newhall, had been shot. When they arrived, they determined that a suspect, described only as a male Hispanic, 25-30 years old, 5'08" tall, 160 pounds, had approached two men who were standing in the area and opened fire. The suspect then ran from the area. One of the men was hit in the back by at least one bullet. He was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel and was then transported to a local area hospital for further treatment. His current condition is not known, but the wound is not believed to be life threatening.
Deputies initiated a crime broadcast and scoured the area for the suspect, but he was not located. COBRA detectives are investigating to determine if the incident is gang related. As the investigation continues, deputies are searching for the above described suspect.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident should immediately contact Detective Pat O'Neill, (661) 799-5154, or Detective Dan Finn, (661) 799-5153, of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's COBRA Team. There is no further information available at this time. -ref 12286
