Proactive Deputy Nabs Burglar Just After Crime
Deputy's Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Suspected Car Burglar Before Victim Even Knew Her Car Window had been Smashed, Purse Stolen
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - 5:45 p.m. - Valencia: An alert deputy arrested Richard Vigil, MH/33, of Tracy California in connection with a vehicle burglary which occurred in the parking lot of Valencia High School as the victim sat, unaware, watching a football game. The deputy was patrolling in the area of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway when he saw the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic violation.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop and discovered two of the persons inside the car were on probation and one was on parole for robbery. The deputy conducted further investigation and found a purse inside the car that no one could account for. The deputy was able to contact the owner of the purse through information found inside. The owner said she was watching a football game at Valencia High School and as far as she knew her purse was in her car. The deputy asked her to check her car and call him back. The victim called back a short time later stating that her window had been smashed and her purse was gone.
Further questioning and investigation resulted in the arrest of the suspect who was a passenger in the car. Two other occupants in the car were also arrested on drug and other charges after the deputy reportedly found methamphetamine.
All the suspects were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. Suspect Vigil was booked on felony charges of Burglary and Receiving Stolen Property. He is being held without bail pending future court proceedings. The other two suspects were booked on lesser charges and were later released after court proceedings.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time. -ref 12136 / 12138
