Sheriff Lee Baca Officiates at Graduation Ceremony of Academy Class #372
Four female and 31 male Deputy Sheriffs, as well as eight male Police Officers from the Beverly Hills, Burbank, Culver City, and Glendale Police Departments, graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Training Academy in Santa Clarita during ceremonies held on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center.
Paul Cappitelli, Executive Director, California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, delivered inspirational remarks to the graduates and their guests.
As part of the graduation, a badge-pinning ceremony was conducted, with the new Deputies and Officers receiving their badges from a family member or loved one. After receiving their graduation certificates, the graduates were officially sworn in as peace officers by Sheriff Lee Baca.
In a special segment of the ceremony, Deputy Jason Viger of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a resident of Saugus, was named the Honor Recruit for Class #372. This award is given to the recruit who achieves the highest numerical average based upon leadership qualities, academics, marksmanship, and physical performance throughout the training period. Additionally, Officer Peter Robinson of the Glendale Police Department, a resident of Lancaster, was acknowledged for graduating with the highest academic score. -ref SHB-94A-08 X X X July 17, 2008
