Violence in the Home is More Common than We Want to Believe
Sunday, August 10, 2008 6:30 p.m. City of Santa Clarita Canyon Country
A 52-year-old woman was treated at the local hospital for injuries she sustained during an argument and fight with her live-in boyfriend. The victim said she has been dating the suspect, John Naglich, M/49, for a year. They have been living together in an apartment in the 28000 block of Whites Canyon for three months. She said that the argument lead to abusive name calling and then it got physical. She said that Naglich hit her in the face causing her to fall to the floor. He then began to choke her, using both of his hands. She said she lost consciousness for a short time. When she regained consciousness, Naglich was using both hands to twist her neck and saying that he was going to kill her and that he was going to snap her neck.
The victim pleaded with Naglich to let her go. He did let her go and she ran outside yelling for help. A concerned neighbor saw that the victim was bleeding from her mouth and nose and called 911. Deputies arrested Naglich for Attempted Murder. He was also charged with violating his probation.
The victim was treated at a local hospital and released home. After examination it was determined that her injuries were not life threatening.
Naglich is being held in the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station jail in lieu of 1,000,000 bail.
The victim told deputies that only two months ago, Naglich hit her in the mouth so hard, she had to get stitches. She said she did not report this incident to the Sheriff's Department. Luckily, this assault did not end in any serious injuries, and she has another chance to leave this relationship which has turned abusive.

The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley has been serving this valley for 25 years.
If you think you, or someone you know, might be in an abusive relationship, contact the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita, www.dvcsantaclarita.com for more information.
