The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles-Santa Clarita District held its Third Annual Hometown Heroes Recognition Breakfast this morning at the Hyatt Valencia Hotel. The purpose of the annual event is to recognized local Hometown Heroes for their leadership and significant contributions to the the community in such categories as First Responder HERO, Workplace HERO, Adult HERO, Youth HERO, Military HERO, Educator HERO, Youth Sports Mentor HERO, Medical HERO and Senior HERO.
This special event was conceived to recognize people in the community who have taken action in a time of crisis to help others or who consistently show an extraordinary gift for human compassion. It celebrates the values of and principles of the American Red Cross who have provided assistance to first responders and residents at virtually every major incident and crisis affecting the Santa Clarita Valley.
This year the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station is proud to announce that Deputy Artie Thompson received the 1st Responder Hero Award. Artie Thompson has been a deputy in the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station since 1995. Artie lives each day surpassing his Sheriff’s duties by contributing in multiple humanitarian efforts. He gives his time, energy, and compassion to improve our community. Some of his contributions include; being a station liaison for the Special Olympics Organization, direct involvement in the Special Needs Registry for children and young adults with autism and other developmental and psychological disorders, and involvement with coordinating special events such as the Cowboy Festival, Amgen Bicycle Tour, and the City of Santa Clarita Annual Marathon. Artie is also the coordinator of the SCV Search and Rescue Team and is involved with the sexual offender registration, monitoring, and compliance program in the Santa Clarita Valley. Congratulations Artie!
