Update: Shooting Death Investigation Newhall

Sheriff's Homicide Detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man at Lyons Avenue and Apple Street, Santa Clarita, on September 26, 2008.
Detectives have learned that deputies responded to the location to investigate a call of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon their arrival, they found the victim lying on the street with an apparent gunshot wound. Witnesses stated the victim was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic light at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Apple Street. A dark sports utility vehicle stopped directly behind the victim's vehicle. Moments later, the suspect approached the passenger victim's window, produced a handgun and demanded money.
A struggle ensued between the victim and the suspect for the handgun resulting in one round being fired, striking the victim in the upper torso. The suspect subsequently fled the scene in the sports utility vehicle eastbound on Lyons Avenue and out of view.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic adult.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Homicide Bureau.
