Estelle Foley 25 Years as a Volunteer
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Recognizes Station Historian Estelle Foley for 25 Years of Dedicated Volunteer Service
Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 will mark the 25 year anniversary of volunteer service to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station for Station Historian Estelle Foley.
Estelle Foley, a pillar of the station, is well known and recognized for all her hard work over the years. Most notably, Estelle is single handedly responsible for preserving and highlighting the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's 159 year history and unprecedented level of service to the Santa Clarita Valley, and 21 years of service to the City of Santa Clarita.
Estelle began her association with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on October 23, 1983. Estelle has been instrumental in coordinating numerous station activities and events, including the Station's Seventieth Anniversary Book and dedication Ceremony in August of 1996; and the creation of the Historical Hall of Fame, which depicts the history of the Department from 1849 to the present time.
In doing so, Estelle researched, documented, and created plaques, picture frames, and momentums to line the walls of the station. These items depict historical events, articles, and milestones from years gone by. If you walk the hallways you can see and read about the many noteworthy leaders that have given their service to the valley throughout the years and the many different enforcement units and specialized resources that have been instrumental in the development of current station protocols and protection efforts. Also highlighted are the prestigious and often times heroic actions of Deputy Sheriffs and other station staff who have served our community throughout the years.
Estelle has served on the station's Community Advisory Community, directly addressing matters that are important to the public we serve. She has served as a volunteer in the station secretariat, was involved with the implementation of the Knox Box security system program, and was involved with spearheading the design and construction of the Memorial Garden. The garden was proudly dedicated on Friday, August 30, 2001, in remembrance of Deputy Hagop "Jake" Kuredjian, killed in the line of duty on August 30th, 2001, and Deputy Arthur Pelino, the first Santa Clarita Valley Deputy to be killed in the line of duty on March 19, 1978. The garden, with its serene waterfall and pond is a place where all station personnel can visit and relax or reflect on Jake, Arthur, and their service to the Santa Clarita Valley. Commemorative plaques with both deputies' pictures also overlook the garden thanks to Estelle and the others involved with the project. The garden helps ensure the deputies are never forgotten.
For her support and dedication to the men and women of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, Mrs. Foley has received numerous awards from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Sheriff's Department, including the Unit Commander's Recognition Pin. As a dedicated volunteer, Estelle has devoted nearly 6,000 hours of her own time and service to the County of Los Angeles and the City of Santa Clarita and saved more than $121,000 in personnel costs over the years. We are extremely grateful for her generosity and kindness, and are truly blessed to have her as part of our family.
Congratulations Estelle Foley for your 25 years of dedicated volunteer service commitment to the Santa Clarita Station. "Estelle continues to amaze us with her timeless and tireless commitment to our station and personnel," said Captain La Berge. "She gives all those who visit and work at our station a unique traditional perspective of the true history behind what we do everyday and we are very grateful for her," he added.
Members of the press are invited and encouraged to tour the station's Historical Wall of Fame and interview Station Historian Estelle Foley. For additional information contact Sergeant Darren Harris at (661) 799-5814.
