Seven Arrested After Negligently Discharging Firearms
Saturday, December 13, 2008, 9:02 p.m. Unincorporated Los Angeles County Lancaster: Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station responded to the 22800 block of West Avenue D-11, Lancaster, Saturday night to reports of gunshots being fired and bullets hitting a nearby residence. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Lancaster Sheriff's Station, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Department, and California Highway Patrol units also responded to the area to assist Santa Clarita personnel.
The caller reported that someone was shooting at their house and that the entire family was laying on the floor to avoid being hit by the gunfire. Deputies arrived and detained ten individuals who were reportedly parting at the remote location. Deputies determined the suspects had been drinking and were allegedly shooting at beer can targets without regard for the nearby residence and highway. Deputies recovered 3 semi automatic handguns, a rifle, several boxes of ammunition, and expended shell casings at the location.
Seven suspects, Juan Velasquez, MH/21, of Chatsworth; Anthony Carrillo, MH/18, of Canoga Park; Carlos Pastrana, MH/21, of Canoga Park; Veronica Gonzalez, FH/20, of Canoga Park; Lluliana Gonzalez, FH/23, of North Hills; James Torres, MH/20, of Northridge; and Christian Cruz, MH/18, of Canoga Park were each booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on felony charges of Negligent Discharge of a Firearm. They are each being held in lieu of $25,000 bail pending court proceedings on December 16, 2008. Suspect Carlos Pastrana is being held without bail pending immigration proceedings.
