McKeon Surprises 40 Students with Inauguration Tickets
Santa Clarita — Today Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) presented forty senior high school history students of Academy of the Canyons Middle College High School with individual highly sought-after Inauguration ceremony tickets. McKeon learned that the students had raised $20,000 through car washes and other fundraisers just to make the trip to Washington, D.C. The Congressman was so moved by the students' determination that he decided to present each of the students and their history teacher, Robert Walker, with a ticket.
"The upcoming Presidential Inauguration will be even more historic than most, because American will be swearing in its first African-American Commander-in-Chief," stated McKeon. "No matter a person's political party affiliation, the 2009 Inaugural swearing-in of Barack Obama will be a milestone for the United States. So when I heard about the Academy of the Canyons students' efforts and desires to reach Washington, D.C. for inaugural week, I wanted to make it possible for them to witness history in-person."
McKeon surprised the students at 10:00 a.m. PT with a personal presentation of the tickets on the school campus.
