Summer 'Stay-cation' at the REP
"Suburbia" cast
Are gas prices ruining your summer plans? No need to worry, the REP will save you.
The Repertory East Playhouse will continue the highly anticipated "81 Series" on Friday, August 22, at 8:00pm with the critically acclaimed drama, Suburbia by Eric Bogosian. Be A Part of The 81 at the Opening Night Wine Reception at 7:00pm with curtain at 8:00pm. Opening Night Wine Reception is sponsored by Loose Goose Wine Festival.
"The 81 Series, or our ‘studio series' features limited engagement performances of a more academia, provocative pieces of theatre by well known and respected playwrights throughout the theatre world. Most of the themes explored in The 81 Series deal with pertinent social ideals and values of American society." explains REP Artistic Director Ovington Michael Owston.
"We gotta get out of this place" is more than just a refrain from an old Animals song, it's been the theme of small-town drama for well over a century. In subUrbia, Bogosian takes an anti-utopian look into the lives of seven youths who meet at the parking lot of a Pakistani owned convenience store as they waste away what are supposed to be "the best years of their lives".
"subUrbia hits very close to home," explains Producer, Mikee Schwinn, "right in our backyards there's a subculture of people in their early 20's who want to move beyond their limitations, but they lack the means to follow our culture's established step-by-step approach: high school-college-career-family so they're viewed as losers. Everyone can't grow up to be rockers and movie stars, so what do you do then? In most cases, you end up like the characters in subUrbia".
Suburbia opens Friday August 22 and will run through September 6. Show times are Friday and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. THIS IS A LIMITED ENGAGEMENT PERFORMANCE. This show contains adult language and adult situations and is intended for mature audiences only. For tickets, purchase online at www.repeastplayhouse.org or call 661-288-0000. The REP is located at 24266 Main Street Newhall, CA 91321.
The REP will host post show discussions immediately following each Sunday performance for both HurlyBurly and Suburbia. Join the cast and crew for an intimate discussion about the process of creating live theatre.
