MOMS Club of Saugus Donates $1,200 to Fierro Family
The MOMS Club of Saugus operated the Bake Shack at Lombardi Ranch on Oct. 24 in honor of and to benefit the family of Jacob Fierro. Members who baked and sold included (from left) Kristy Harvick, Molly Cahill, Ofra Naylor, Monica Wynn and Monica Bazan.
Santa Clarita, Calif. (Nov. 10, 2008) The MOMS Club of Saugus has donated $1200 to benefit the Fierro family who recently lost their two-year-old son, Jacob, to leukemia. A check was presented to the family on Nov. 9.
As part of an international organization, the MOMS Club of Saugus each year conducts a service project that is to benefit children in the community. A list of possible beneficiaries was put together by Club members and then a vote was taken. The Jacob Fierro family was chosen in September. Moms from the Club baked and sold items at the Bake Shack at Lombardi Ranch on Fri., Oct. 24. Sadly, Jacob passed away the week prior to the event.
"Being an organization of moms, we were all affected by Jacob's passing. It wasn't the outcome we were looking for," said Jaci Hoffman, president of the MOMS Club of Saugus. "We knew that Jacob's illness had an emotional and financial impact on the family and we still wanted to help. We proceeded with the bake sale in Jacob's honor."
The Club, made up of more than 45 moms, baked so many treats that a second sale was held the following day outside Albertson's in Saugus. Still, there were enough items remaining to donate to two police stations, four local fire stations, and the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley's branch in Canyon Country.
"The Santa Clarita community was very generous. Of the $1200 we collected, more than $300 came from individuals who gave beyond their purchases or who made no purchase at all," Hoffman added.
