Attention Silent Film Fans!
1923 Buster Keaton Classic Coming to "Flickers at the Junction" for Valentine's Day
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is proud to present silent funnyman Buster Keaton's classic "Our Hospitality," on Valentine's Day, Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 7:30 PM as part of the "Flickers at the Junction" (formerly "Friday Night Flickers") film series. The film will be shown in the historic Saugus Train Station in Heritage Junction, Newhall. Live accompaniment will be provided by 96-year-old Hollywood legend Bob Mitchell, the last of the silent era organists. Suggested donation is $5, which includes free popcorn!
Buster Keaton, "The Great Stoneface," made many of the most famous and lasting comedies of the silent era. In "Our Hospitality" Buster plays Willie McKay. The Canfields and McKays are locked in a bitter feud, which Willie has avoided while living in the city. During a trip to his old family home he meets Virginia and falls in love. However, after coming into her house he realizes she is a Canfield. Virginia's family wants to kill Willie, but their rigid social code prevents them from doing it while he's a guest in their home. Once he steps outside, however, it's a different story!
The Saugus Train Station is located at Heritage Junction (inside William S. Hart Park), at 24107 Newhall Avenue (formerly San Fernando Road), Newhall. Gates open at 7:00 PM and seating is limited, so be sure to come early to see one of film's early silent superstars in action. (Program subject to change.)
