Return Engagement for 1927 Buster Keaton Silent Comedy "The General"
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is proud to once again present Buster Keaton's epic silent comedy masterpiece, "The General," on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at DUSK, as part of the "Flickers at the Junction" film series. The film will be shown OUTDOORS (weather permitting) at the historic Saugus Train Station in Heritage Junction, Newhall. Suggested donation is $5, which includes free popcorn!
Buster Keaton, silent comedy's "Great Stoneface," took a tragic true story from the Civil War and transformed it into a visual masterpiece that many critics believe to be the funniest film of the entire silent era. It was recently voted one of the greatest of all American films by the American Film Institute. Bob Mitchell, who has been playing keyboards for nearly all of his ninety-six years, will be at the organ. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see one of the greatest comedies of the silent era, with the soundtrack provided by one of the last men in the world who actually played for silent films when they debuted!
The Saugus Train Station is located at Heritage Junction (inside William S. Hart Park), at 24107 Newhall Avenue (formerly San Fernando Road), Newhall. Gates open at 7:00 PM and the film begins at dusk (around 8:00 PM). Please bring lawn chairs and blankets.
