Castaic was rocked by a 4.2-magnitude earthquake Saturday at 7:18 p.m. The shaker hit 6.6 miles north of the Castaic Lake dam at a reported depth of 8.9 km (about 5 miles). Initially pegged at 4.5, it was downgraded about 40 minutes later. Aftershocks continued throughout the evening.

New Old Stuff: Cemex Not Needed  
If you wondered where they made the cement that went into the giant L.A. Aqueduct pipe we showed the other day, here you go. This aqueduct cement-mixing plant was located just south of the Newhall Tunnel, which today is the crest of Sierra Highway south of Eternal Valley Cemetery.
