 Melba Walker Fisher, Lifelong SCV Resident, Dies at 98 Melba
Josephine Walker Fisher, who had been the oldest living child of
Placerita Canyon homesteaders Frank an Hortense Walker, died Thursday,
Jan. 1. She was 98. Melba was one of 12 Walker children, and the ruins
of the cabin in which she was born - it burned down in 1918 - can still
be seen on the north side of Placerita Canyon Road about a mile east
of the entrance to Placerita Canyon State Park. The park was once part
of the Walker homestead property. |

Sheriff deputies responded to a home in Sand Canyon Sunday evening
because a resident, who had just returned from vacation, suspected

of water was sufficient to kill 84 Southern California Edison linemen
who were asleep in their tents at the L.A.-Ventura county line when the
City of L.A.'s St. Francis Dam failed on a March night in 1928. It
