2017 Arts Grants Issued by City 
The city of Santa Clarita issued its 2017 Arts Grants to various community organizations that will fund different community arts projects and arts services within the city of Santa Clarita.

Medal of Honor Recipient Speaks at Valencia High 
Retired Army Lt. Col. Charles Hagemeister, one of only 76 living Medal of Honor recipients in the United States, spoke to students last week at Valencia High School.

County Names New Head 
of Hart Park, Tesoro Adobe  
Eric Reifman has been promoted to superintendent of William S. Hart Regional Park and Tesoro Adobe Historic Park, effective Feb. 2. 

GCC's 'Little Baby No Name' No Longer Nameless  
After the community cast their ballots in the naming competition for the baby gibbon at the Gibbon Conservation Center, a name for the little one has been chosen: Howard, after the Center's volunteer vet. 

Flash Flood Watch Issued for Greater L.A. Area  
The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Los Angeles, Ventura, and southern Santa Barbara Counties from Friday morning through Saturday morning. 

A Valentine for Women, Art, and Community  
It's time for the one and only event - Empowering HeArts. Now in its seventh year, Empowering HeArts has recognized women for their ability to rise above overwhelming circumstances.  Each year a relevant theme embodies the persona of the honorees.

College of the Canyons was able to overcome a six-point halftime deficit to pick up an important 80-65 conference victory vs. Santa Monica College during Saturday's 'Gold Rush' game at the Cougar Cage.  
Lady Mustangs Indoor Track & Field Stampede Soka Indoor Qualifier  
The Master's University women's indoor track & field program posted standout results at the Soka Indoor Qualifier. 
Oroville: Wed. Update; 1,500 Still in Shelters  
The American Red Cross continues to feed and shelter people in California where authorities have lifted the mandatory evacuation order for almost 200,000 people near the Oroville Dam spillway.

Blast from the Past: Memories of Callahan's Old West
The Saugus attraction became a home to Western skits complete with shootouts and saloon brawls. Numerous men and a few women performed in those Old West recreations over several years. Some of the same performers worked as bit-part players and extras in Western movies and television shows such as "Gunsmoke."
