Raided by Vasquez, Kingston is Barely a Memory |  Kingston
was an important commercial center between Stockton and Visalia before
1873, when our notorious outlaw Tiburcio Vasquez raided it. Vasquez and
his gang tied up the townsfolk and robbed them blind. Afterward,
Kingston fell into decline and within a few years was wiped off the map.
If you look carefully along the south bank of the Kings River northeast
of Hanford, you can find some concrete rubble. It's from the footings
of the bridge Vasquez used to enter Kingston and exit it with $2,500 in
cash and jewels. Other than that, nothing is left of the town. |
