 Woman No Longer Missing; Left Voluntarily On Tuesday, detectives made affirmative identification of Kristin Ghilardi based on several public sightings of her at different local businesses in the Ventura and Northridge areas. World War II Casualty: SGT Edward D. Contreras, Castaic Our ongoing effort to compile the stories of the Santa Clarita Valley's fallen warriors brings us to Block J, Row 4, Grave 7 of the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery in Nettuno, Italy. It's the final resting place of SGT Edward D. Contreras. Born in Phoenix, he had come to Castaic with his parents; his father was a farmer on the Newhall Ranch. After grammar school, Ed worked as a concrete finisher. He enlisted in the Army in 1941, saw action in North Africa in 1942 and participated in the liberation of Sicily in 1943. He landed at Anzio on Jan. 22, 1944, as the Allies began to drive the entrenched German Army up the boot. It was here, in some of the heaviest fighting of the war, that SGT Contreras fell on Feb. 9.
