Op-Ed: Beyond the Beach | Darryl Manzer It
was seven days from the day the chopper crashed before they recovered
my father's body. Seven days of walking the bluffs above the beach,
looking out at the rescue and recovery efforts. Seven nights of being on
those same bluffs and seeing those platforms brightly lighted. COMMENTARY |
Op-Ed: Heil, Putin | Joe Messina Secretary
of State John Kerry was stunned when he heard, as he was giving a
speech overseas, that Russia was invading Crimea and said, "That just
doesn't happen in this century." Was he channeling Baghdad Bob? Really?
It was and still is happening, Mr. Kerry. Are you willing to admit
it? COMMENTARY |

Mark Your Calendar: Rancho Camulos Then & Now | Hard
to believe that just 10 miles from busy Interstate 5 down scenic
Highway 126 is one of the most picturesque, serene and historic spots in
all of Southern California. It's Rancho Camulos, onetime home of the
Del Valle family, who owned the whole western half of the Santa Clarita
Valley in the mid-1800s. In fact, since 1839, only two families have
owned the ranch, which is why it's still a throwback to the old Spanish
and Mexican days. On Saturday, Oct. 18, Judy Triem, chair of the
nonprofit Rancho Camulos Musuem, will give a talk at the Old Town
Newhall Library and share old photos showing how much - or how little -
the place has changed over the years. |
