Op-Ed: Purple Penguins | Joe Messina It
seems a Nebraska school district is instructing its teachers not to use
the terms "boys and girls," "ladies and gentlemen," "you guys." Why?
Because they don't include gender-non-confirming terminology and
therefore cause confusion for those few children who don't identify with
any specific gender. COMMENTARY |
Op-Ed: Governor Mine | Darryl Manzer I
figured out how to stop some of those not-so-nice telemarketers. Let
them ramble, and when they ask how much you want to buy, just ask them
if they take food stamps. Funny, I don't get another call from them
after that. Now if I could do the same for the political robo-calls... COMMENTARY |

Blast from the Past: City Formation |
As originally envisioned, the city of Santa Clarita (est. 1987) would
have encompassed 90 square miles including Castaic, which is
represented on the City Formation Committee's logo by the branch of the
tree at left. But L.A. County's Local Agency Formation Commission
(LAFCO) didn't allow that to happen and whittled down the tree to 39.5
square miles. It has since grown back (through LAFCO-approved
annexations) to 57.9 square miles as of 2014. |
