History Remembered ... And Overlooked
|
As
part of a multi-week celebration of the L.A. Aqueduct's 100th
anniversary, Los Angeles city and water officials unveiled a new garden
art installation at the 1940 William Mulholland Memorial Fountain at Los
Feliz. The fountain and garden (and the centennial festivities) hail
Mulholland as a hero for bringing water to Los Angeles - with no
acknowledgment whatsoever of the estimated 450 Santa Clarita Valley and
Ventura County residents who paid for L.A.'s growth with their lives
when Mulholland's St. Francis Dam broke in 1928.
