Where

have cars and used to be able to walk to the post office ... not any
more. COMMENTARY |

New Old Stuff: Relics of the First Santa Claritans | The
most important assemblage of cultural materials belonging to native SCV
residents was found in a cave in 1884. Baskets were filled with all
manner of items including these unique "sun sticks," believed to have
been used ceremonially. The items were stashed in the cave between about
1770 and 1810. One theory is that the elders from a local village
wanted to preserve their cultural materials either for later use or for
posterity in the face of momentous change brought about by the arrival
(1769) and establishment (1804) of Europeans in the SCV. The cave is
located on the grounds of the present-day Chiquita Canyon Landfill. To
date, it hasn't been covered up with garbage. READ STORY, SEE MORE |
