 Op-Ed: I Can't Breathe | Jennifer FischerThe
residents of Val Verde are struggling to have their voices heard and
recognized as they speak out against the expansion of the Chiquita
Canyon Landfill. I see the existence of the landfill so close to homes
in Val Verde, and this proposed expansion, as clearly related to
systemic racism and the power of privilege. COMMENTARY |
 Op-Ed: Buck's New Job | Darryl ManzerHere
is my prediction, folks: Howard P. "Take the Buck" McKeon has found a
job. In fact I would think it was his retirement job that he had in mind
for the last 15 years of so. He is going to lobby for the mining

New Old Stuff: America's Rancho Rancho
Camulos - 10 miles west of Valencia on scenic Highway 126 - has been
selected as the archetypal California rancho for an exhibit in the
Smithsonian Institution in 2016. Seen here around 1890, this is the
bedroom in the main adobe, built in 1853 by the Del Valle family - who
at the time owned the whole 48,000-acre Rancho San Franciso (the western
half of the SCV). The Del Valles lived at Camulos continuously from the
1860s until 1924 when they sold the ranch to August Rübel, whose heirs
still own it. See Rancho Camulos this weekend during "Christmas at Camulos: A Festival of Lights," today and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
