Greater SCV Soroptimists Set to Debut "The Wine Affair" Oct. 19
SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA (July 10, 2008) The newest local club of Soroptimist International, known as the Soroptimists of Greater Santa Clarita Valley, announced plans to host the inaugural "The Wine Affair...Sip, Stroll and Savor the Sounds" on Sunday, October 19 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. along Town Center Drive in the Westfield Valencia Town Center in Valencia.
A combination of eight to ten restaurants, retailers and wine stores on Town Center Drive are expected to participate. Confirmed participants include Salt Creek Grille, Miriam's, Roma Jewelers, Bella Sport and Valencia Wine Company. In addition, Vino 100 Valencia and Loose Goose Wines will pour at designated locations. Each venue features wine tastings, food and musical entertainment. Venues will be spaced within walking distance of each other to allow for a comfortable stroll.
"This is an inaugural event for our new [Soroptimist] club," said Rose Chegwin, who is co-chairing the event along with Tamra Levine, Sheryl Geraci, Jo Ann Vindigni and Darlene Gandara. "October is breast cancer awareness month and we wanted to create an event that would help us raise funds for a cause that resonates with many of us."
A portion of the day's proceeds will benefit the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center on the campus of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital to help women who are unable to afford detection services. "I'm delighted that the event will support our breast imaging center's ability to provide screenings for those who are uninsured or underinsured," said Diana Vose, president of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation. "The importance of early detection should be available to all women (and men), and the Soroptimist's Wine Affair event contributes to that effort."
The Travel Bug located on Town Center Drive is this year's event Title Sponsor. Geri Jacobs, owner of The Travel Bug and an active Soroptimist member, shares the club's enthusiasm for this inaugural event. The Magazine of Santa Clarita is on board as Media Sponsor. "I have been a friend of Soroptimist International for many years and it is always a pleasure to promote the wonderful work they do," said publisher Linda Hafizi. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available.
Tickets will be available at $40 in advance; $50 the day of the event. This event is limited to participants ages 21 and over. Tickets will be sold at participating venues beginning in September or may be purchased by sending a check to SIGSCV, Attention: Sheryl Geraci, P.O. Box 801352, Santa Clarita, CA 91380-1352.
