Assemblyman Smyth Refuses Per Diem Increase
SACRAMENTO emblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, announced he will refuse the recently instituted per diem increase for California State Legislators.
"Although the increase of $3 per day may not be seen as a significantly large amount," said Smyth, "however I do not feel that it would be appropriate to take this increase in light of the tough economic and budgetary times Californians are now facing."
The Legislators' per diem is annually adjusted in order to account for cost of living expenses and was recently increased from $170 per day to $173 and is allocated when the Legislature is in session.
