Smyth Authors Legislation to Add Elsmere Canyon to the Rim of the Valley Trail
SACRAMENTO — Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, today introduced Assembly Bill 110, which will allow the owner of Elsmere Canyon in Los Angeles to explore the possibility of adding it to the Rim of the Valley Trail.
"I'm excited that AB 110 would afford people greater access to parks, trails and wildlife," said Smyth. "Expanding the Rim of the Valley Trail is an important step in creating more outdoor recreational opportunities for our community."
In 1999, Whitney Canyon was added to the Rim of the Valley Trail by Assemblyman George Runner's AB 339 — Elsmere Canyon was left out of that bill to allow for the possibility of building a landfill. Since then, ownership has changed and the landfill is no longer planned.
Elsmere Canyon is completely enclosed by the Rim of the Valley — AB 110 completes what was started with AB 339 in 1999.
