Aqua Aerobics Classes Start Soon
Water exercise programs have made a big splash in the fitness world for many good reasons! Aqua workouts maintain muscle tone and cardiovascular fitness while decreasing pressure on joints and increasing resistance 12 fold over land-based workouts. It increases circulation and reduces joint swelling, and just as important, regulates body temperature for maximum effectiveness, performance, and comfort.
Water is 800 times more dense than air. That means movements performed at an average speed in water meet with approximately 12 to 15 times as much resistance as similar movements performed in air. What's more, the harder you push in the water, the more the workout becomes intensified.
Beginning June 2nd and running through the summer, Linda Bennett, Fitness Director of the SCV Seniors facility, will be running a Tuesday/Thursday session of Aqua Fitness at Bouquet Canyon Seniors facility, 26705 Bouquet Canyon Road. Water Walking/warmup begins at 8:30 a.m. The class runs 8:45-9:30 a.m.
Students are asked to bring a towel, aqua shoes, sunscreen, and bottled water. The cost is $5/class for those over 60, and $6/class for those under 60. Classes run through October. Linda Bennett is a board Certified ACE fitness instructor, who has dedicated her life to helping others be fit and healthy. She currently specializes in Senior fitness and has a knowledgeable team of certified instructors (Lisa Barnes, and Joyce Menta) who work with her to help keep Santa Clarita healthy and fit. This program is provided through the SCV Senior Center.
