Mini Health Fair Added to Senior Center's Caregiver Resource Day Lineup
In continued efforts to help caregivers receive the support, information, and self-care they deserve, the Santa Clarita Senior Center has added a mini health fair to its upcoming Saturday, June 20, Caregiver Resource Day. Running from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the free seminar will now provide free cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, and BMI screenings, complimentary of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. Chiropractor Dr. Roger De Sesa and Mobile Masseur Jim Vang will also be on board.
Keynote talks at the Supportive Services-coordinated event will inform attendees of the latest research in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, and provide seasoned advice on care-giving. The title sponsor is Comfort Keepers In-Home Care; event sponsors also include Santa Clarita Valley Homemakers and Personal Attendants, Home Instead Senior Care, and Summerhill Villa Senior Living. Also on tap: A Pacifica Senior Living Santa Clarita-sponsored continental breakfast, raffles, and an array of care-giving-related vendors and services including: Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services, Providence Health & Services, Advantage Plus Agency, Concepts for Living, Assisted Hospice, Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center, the Alzheimer's Association, and the Parkinson's Support Group.
For families requiring respite care so they can attend the event, the Senior Center can definitely help facilitate in that need, said SuzAnn Nelsen Senior Center Director of Supportive Services and Caregiver Resource Day co-coordinator. "We want to accommodate them and ask that they contact us right away so those plans can be implemented in time," Nelsen said.
Caregivers throughout the community are strongly encouraged to attend Caregiver Resource Day, said Diana Sevanian, R.N., event co-coordinator and Senior Center Director of Health & Wellness Director. "We look forward to providing attendees with empowering information and many supportive resources, and now with the mini health fair complementing our lineup, we'll be able to help them get a better handle on their own physical and emotional well-being," Sevanian said.
The SCV Senior Center is located at 22900 Market Street in Newhall. For further information contact SuzAnn Nelsen or Diana Sevanian at (661) 255-1588 or email at supportiveservices@scvsc.org, or fax at (661) 255-6069.
