"Santa Central" kickoff: Letters to Santa need to be answered
Santa's helpers are needed to read and answer the thousands of letters to Santa Claus from children and adults throughout the area. Since 1912, the Postal Service has made letters addressed to Santa available to charitable organizations, businesses and the general public to answer. Letters are provided to these helpers who can make wishes come true, which sometimes may be basics like food, clothes, and school supplies.
Note: Documentation must be completed and signed, along with valid photo identification to adopt a Santa letter.
Where: Santa Clarita Processing and Distribution Center
28201 Franklin Parkway, Santa Clarita CA 91383
When: Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.
Photo/video opportunities: Santa will be on hand to read some of the letters from kids in need. Members of the public, businesses and charitable organizations will be present browsing through letters to adopt and answer.
An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world's mail.
