Rwandan Genocide is Topic for Unitarian Universalists Sept. 21
CalArts Performing Arts Librarian Kathy Carbone will address the local Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregation at Sunday morning church services on September 21. The purpose of her talk is to explain a special project of CalArts in Kigali, Rwanda a community research library devoted to the subject of genocide.
Church members will pass the collection plate during services, with all proceeds to be donated to this special Cal Arts "sister library." For details on the project, visit www.uuofscv.org/charity.html#3rdSunday.
The Unitarian Universalists of Santa Clarita Valley take up a "Third Sunday" collection for charity once a month. Over the past two years, church members and guests have provided close to $6,500 to nonprofit organizations through their monthly generosity. The UU church has an active social justice program that supports local food pantries, AIDS research, meals for the homeless, the adoption of needy families at Christmas, and more.
Church services are held each Sunday, 10:30 AM, at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., in Newhall. For directions and further information, visit www.UUofSCV.org or call 661-254-7866. This congregation offers a spiritual home for religious free thinkers, drawing upon the teachings of many of the world's faiths to help individuals build their own theology.
