Movies to Talk About: Pete Seeger
"Pete Seeger: The Power of Song" will be shown at "Movies-to-Talk-About" this month, with a bonus after the film showing a live performance and sing-along with local folk artist and songwriter Trish Lester (www.TrishLester.com), who will share some of Seeger's most popular songs. Lyrics will be provided.
The movie showing is at 6:30 PM on Thursday, October 9, at Vincenzo's Pizza Esperienza, 24504½ Lyons Ave, in Newhall. Sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of SCV as a community service, the event is free and open to the public. Participants may purchase dinner or snacks, if desired. Free soft drinks are provided.
The movie blends archival footage, interviews and home movies to paint an affectionate portrait of pioneering folksinger and political activist Pete Seeger, best known for the classic anthems "If I Had a Hammer" and "Turn, Turn, Turn." Highlights of the film include candid conversations with Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, who weigh in on Seeger's far-reaching influence.
Unitarian Universalist Church services are held each Sunday at 10:30 AM at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., in Newhall.
