Innovative Development to Preview at VIA Luncheon
The Valley Industrial Association Invites you to join us on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at
11:45 a.m. at the
Valencia Country Club,
27330 No. Tourney Road,
Valencia
It is estimated that over 50 percent of the 40,000 employees working in the Valencia Industrial Park do not live in Santa Clarita. That doesn't include other business and service sectors throughout the area, such as education-related jobs. For those employees who commute, last summer's rise in fuel costs only added
to the hardship.
The Valley Industrial Association has been instrumental in researching alternatives, developing processes and identifying key partners that will be necessary to resolve the issue. VIA's Workforce Housing Task Force meets monthly to discuss the issue, identify obstacles, and formulate next steps toward resolution.
JSB Development's Vista Canyon project, a "town center-designed, transit-focused community" proposed for 185 acres of vacant property in Canyon Country, typifies a project that strives to achieve a work-live balance.
Vista Canyon is envisioned as a transit-oriented, walkable community that will bring significant new amenities to the east side of the Santa Clarita Valley. The plan integrates employment, retail, entertainment, transportation and recreation opportunities, while addressing the imbalance of important infrastructure and services that currently exists.
Primary design components include: a Town Center with shops and restaurants, specialty grocer, and hotel; a Metrolink station; a corporate campus with professional, technical, managerial and medical jobs; and three parks and a multi-use trail system for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians.
The proposed community offers a variety of residential product types including single family homes, townhomes, live-work homes, condominiums and high-end apartments. Vista Canyon's design, walkability and transportation options are designed to encourage people to get out of their cars as they live, work, commute and enjoy the community. Public hearings for the project are expected to begin later this year.
Jim Backer, Steve Valenziano and Glenn Adamick of JSB Development will
present current plans at the luncheon.
