CMTA President Key Speaker at VIA Monthly Luncheon July 15
California Manufacturing & Technology Association spearheads legislation advocating for state's manufacturing interests, processors and technology-based companies
SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA (July 7, 2008) Jack Stewart, president of the California Manufacturing & Technology Association (CMTA), will be the keynote speaker at the next Valley Industrial Association luncheon on Tuesday, July 15, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive in Valencia.
CMTA works to improve and enhance a strong business climate for California's 30,000 manufacturing, processing and technology-based companies. As an economic sector, manufacturing generates more than $250 billion each year and employs in excess of 1.5 million workers in California. CMTA works with state government to develop balanced laws, effective regulations and sound public policies that stimulate economic growth and create new jobs, while safeguarding the state's environmental resources.
The membership organization sponsors and advocates for legislation that assists manufacturers, processors, research and development, and biotech companies to grow and compete in California. Stewart will discuss top issues addressed by the CMTA, including career/tech education, sufficient workforce for California's economy, competitive tax policies for manufacturers, and access to affordable healthcare.
Stewart recently helped establish the California Industry & Trade Council (CITC), which unites local industry associations with CMTA. The CITC is a statewide federation of local and regional industry and trade associations dedicated to sharing information, combining resources and amplifying the voice of manufacturers and other trade industry job creators. Sponsored by the CMTA, the new organization operates as a conduit between local industry association executives and the CMTA to promote greater local grassroots responsiveness on state legislative issues and increased Sacramento responsiveness on key challenges facing local business and industry. VIA was the first association to join the CITC.
In other business, representatives from the Michael Hoefflin Foundation will join VIA to provide an overview of the upcoming Fifteenth Annual "An Evening Under the Stars" event scheduled for Saturday, September 6th.
The business luncheon is open to the public. Cost is $40 for VIA members and $50 for non-members. Reservations for the July 15 luncheon should be received by Thursday, July 10 and can be made by calling VIA at (661) 294-8088 or by visiting www.via.org.
