Free Job Search Workshop Announced

Valencia United Methodist Church's WOW Ministries Team is sponsoring a free workshop for individuals who expect to be seeking new employment in 2009. The session is scheduled for Saturday morning, February 7th, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Valencia United Methodist Church, 25718 McBean Parkway, across from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. A team of local job search experts will be on hand to offer valuable tools, tips, and resources. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about and explore important aspects of the job search process, including: developing an action plan; identifying where to find the best job possibilities; completing applications; creating resumes and cover letters; preparing for the interview, etc. The workshop will also offer a chance to meet and share ideas with others in our local business community. Individuals interested in attending are asked to reserve a seat by calling (661) 284-1866, ext. 121, and leaving your name and number.
At a time when economic uncertainty continues, the WOW Ministries Team is pleased to have an opportunity to partner with local job search experts to help interested job seekers to identify and connect with area employers who want and need talent to help their organizations continue to grow and prosper. For more information, contact Larry Comp at (818) 535-1038.
WOW Ministries is an acronym for "Working Outside the Walls." The program began in 2008 as a ministry of Valencia United Methodist, and is continuing to expand its available services to meet the unmet needs in our community and beyond. WOW was originally introduced to the Santa Clarita Valley as a host site for Angel Food Ministries, The Angel Food program (http://www.angelfoodministries.com), with host sites in 3,500 locations across the U.S., provides families with an opportunity to purchase approximately $65 worth of nutritious "restaurant grade" food for just $30. The food is pre-ordered once a month by anyone who can benefit from saving on food costs. Individuals who place their orders for Angel Food via Valencia United Methodist are then able to pick their food up at the church on the fourth Saturday of each month. Church volunteers help in the distribution of the food and also contribute extra boxes to be donated directly to the Hunger Defense Fund and Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.
